SCHOLARSHIPS

The Landing School offers a variety of merit-based and need based scholarships to students who qualify.

Since our students are admitted on a rolling basis, we review scholarship applications and make award announcements three times a year. Scholarship applications are due:

March 31st, May 15th, August 15th

LANDING SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS

The Early Enrollment Scholarship
The Early Enrollment Scholarship is awarded to new students who complete the enrollment process by or prior to February 28th. The following is required:

  • A signed copy of your Enrollment Agreement Contract by or prior to February 28th

  • Pay your $500 enrollment deposit by or prior to February 28th

Award amount: $500

The Inexperienced Boatbuilder’s Scholarship

The Inexperienced Boatbuilder’s Scholarship is for an accepted Landing School student who has little to no experience in the marine industry. This competitive scholarship will be awarded based on an applicant’s ability to demonstrate and communicate their reasoning for choosing the Landing School, despite inexperience.

Award amount: $500 - $5,000 each

The Imagination, Initiative, Invention (I3) Scholarship

The Imagination, Initiative, Invention (I3) Scholarship is a competitive scholarship that is awarded based on an applicant’s ability to illustrate their creative skills. Candidates for this scholarship can use the questions in the Scholarship Application to highlight their creative skills.

Award amount: $500 - $5,000 each

The LANDING SCHOOL Scholarship

The Landing School Scholarship is is awarded based on an applicant’s financial need and potential to succeed in the marine industry.

Award amount: $500 - $5,000 each

Women in the Marine Industry Scholarship

The Women in the Marine Industry Scholarship is awarded to women who want to pursue an education and career in the marine industry.

Award amount: $500 - $10,000 each

The Scholarship Endorsed by Alums (SEA) 

The Scholarship Endorsed by Alums (SEA) is awarded to an applicant who is referred by a Landing School graduate.

Award amount: $500 - $5,000 each

SAFE HARBOR Scholarship 

Safe Harbor Marinas is proud to support technical school students pursuing their educational goals. The Safe Harbor Marinas scholarship is for Marine Systems students who are looking to pursue a career in the recreational marine industry. Scholarship recipients are supported through their time at the The Landing School by getting unparalleled access to SHM leadership.

Award amount: $5,000 each

Island Foundation BERMUDA Scholarship

Sponsored by The Island Foundation, this scholarship offers Bermudian students the opportunity to pursue a world-class education in marine technology, yacht design, and boat building. This scholarship supports passionate individuals looking to develop hands-on skills and excel in Bermuda’s marine industry.

Award amount: up to $40,000

The Antique and Classic Boat Society Inc. Scholarship

The Antique and Classic Boat Society Inc. Scholarship is awarded to students who are “interested in developing and perfecting the knowledge and skills needed for preservation, restoration, and construction of vintage boats.”

Award amount: $500 - $5,000 each

The Virginia Hodgkins Somers Foundation Scholarship

The Virginia Hodgkins Somers Foundation Scholarship is awarded to students who are Maine residents and have graduated from high school in the previous three years.

Award amount: $500 - $5,000 each

The E. Logan Welborn Memorial Scholarship

The E. Logan Welborn Memorial Scholarship is a scholarship funded by the loved ones of E. Logan Welborn, who graduated from The Landing School in 2012. It is open to returning students who are passionate about boats, life, and the pursuit of excellence.

Award amount: $500 - $2,500 each


EXTERNAL Scholarships

National Marine Representatives Association (NMRA) Scholarship
Since 2008, National Marine Rep Association (NMRA) has actively contributed to the future of the marine industry by offering scholarships to students pursuing education in the marine trades.

The NMRA scholarship is awarded annually.  Funds for the scholarships are raised by NMRA members, Affiliate Members and non-members.  The scholarship program begins accepting applications in the spring annually and recipients are selected during the summer.

Marine Trades Association Referral Scholarship
The Maine Marine Trades Association offers a scholarship of $500 to a student referred by a member of a partnered Marine Trades Association. To nominate a candidate, register them here and indicate your name and your Marine Trades Association in the referral field, or have them start an application.

Massachusetts Marine Trades Educational Trust (MMTET) Scholarship
Massachusetts Marine Trades Educational Trust (MMTET) awards amounting in $1,500 are given to a Massachusetts resident who is a high school senior or graduate pursuing an education with the intent of working in the marine industry in Massachusetts upon graduation.

National Marine Electronics Alliance (NMEA) Scholarship
The National Marine Electronics Alliance (NMEA) is available for 2 individuals who aspire to enter a career in marine systems. The candidate must be an entering student or currently enrolled in a trade school. $5,000 is to be awarded. For more information contact NMEA.

Society of Naval Architects & Marine Engineers (SNAME) Scholarship
The Society of Naval Architects & Marine Engineers (SNAME) offers an annual $6,000 scholarship to an undergraduate student who is passionate about their education and looking to pursue a career in naval architecture, marine engineering, or ocean engineering.

Marine Technology Society (MTS) Scholarship
The Marine Technology Society offers a variety of scholarships to graduating seniors in high school, undergraduates, and graduate students looking to pursue a full-time education in marine-related programs including marine systems.

Marine Trades Association of NJ (MTANJ) Scholarship
The Marine Trades Association of NJ (MTANJ) offers 3 scholarships to residents of New Jersey entering a vocational, technical, or college degree program. Candidates are eligible for $1,500 and must reside in New Jersey to apply.

Recreational Boating Industries Education Foundation (RBIEF) Scholarship
The Recreational Boating Industries Education Foundation is available only to Michigan residents with an interest to pursue a career in the marine industry. Multiple scholarships are available, and each are awarded in various amounts.

Marine Industries of the Treasure Coast (MIATC) Scholarship
The Marine Industries of the Treasure Coast offers scholarships to benefit college bound high school seniors pursuing a career in the marine industry. For more information, please contact MIATC.

Merchant Exchange of Portland Oregon Scholarship
The Merchant Exchange of Portland Oregon is to support a student with the educational goals of advancing their career in the marine industry by providing resources for their continued education. The Scholarship is awarded by merit to students seeking or advancing a career in the maritime industry.

EYC Foundation Scholarship
The EYC Foundation scholarship is offered to high school graduates pursuing an education in the marine industry. Applicants residing in Maryland are preferred, but others are encouraged to apply. Awards are given in segments of $1,000/semester or $2,000/year.

National Marine Representatives Association (NMRA) Scholarship
The National Marine Representatives Association Scholarship is awarded annually to students pursuing education in the marine trade industry.

American Maritime Partnership Scholarship
The American Maritime Partnership is available for multiple students. The annual scholarship is awarded in the amount of a minimum $500.

Booth Chick Scholarship
The Booth Chick Scholarship of $1,000 is available for a Kennebunk High School senior who is attending a school in Maine with the intention of studying a subject in the marine industry. For more information, contact Kennebunk High School (207-985-1114). Please note the deadline for applications is April 29th.

Study.com Scholarship for Women in S.T.E.M.
The Study.com Scholarship for Women in S.T.E.M. is for women pursuing a degree in a program emphasizing S.T.E.M (science, technology, engineering or math). The award is available to multiple students for $2,000.

Maine Education Service Scholarship
The Maine Education Service Scholarship is awarded in the amount of $5,000 to a student who is a Maine resident. Please note this scholarship is based on merit and financial aid needs.

Marine & Maritime Scholarship
The Eastport Yacht Club Foundation offers the Marine & Maritime Scholarship to support students from DC, DE, PA, VA, and WV pursuing careers in the marine or maritime industry. Each year, the EYC foundation awards approximately $20,000 in scholarships, with individual awards of $1,000 per semester or $2,000 per year.

Competitive Skills Scholarship Program (CSSP)
Maine Career Center’s Competitive Skills Scholarship Program (CSSP) can help Mainers with the funding and support services needed to pursue two and four year degree programs or obtain industry-recognized credentials which lead to jobs in Maine's many high wage, in-demand career fields.

Plywood Regatta Scholarship
The Plywood Regatta Scholarship of $1,000 is eligible to students who are graduating high school and entering a post-secondary educational institution as a marine systems or marine technology students. Applicants MUST also be a Plywood Regatta participant.

Nautical Research Guild Academic Scholarship Program
The Nautical Research Guild is proud to support the next generation of nautical historians, archeologists, architects and builders. Our Academic Scholarship Program is open for applications to individuals who intend to study nautical history, nautical archeology, naval architecture or wooden boatbuilding in a post-secondary or trade school setting. Maine Seacoast Mission Scholarship Programs
The Maine Seacoast Mission’s scholarship programs help recent high school graduates and adults from Maine’s outer island and Downeast communities continue their educational paths and achieve their dreams. Since the beginning of the program, the Mission has awarded almost $3 million to 3,692 deserving students from Maine’s outer islands and Downeast coastal communities. Each year we award about twenty-five scholarships based on students’ financial need and academic promise. Because our scholarships can be renewed for multiple years, the Mission has nearly 100 active scholars in any given year.

The Worthington Scholarship Foundation
The Worthington Scholarship Foundation awards scholarships to graduates of partnered Maine public high schools who will be attending a participating Maine college or university. Our scholarship is based upon need and merit while generally ensuring representation from a broad cross-section of partner high schools and considering academic interests and life experiences as described in essays. Scholarship amounts can be up to $20,000.

The American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC)
The American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) is a non-profit, member organization that develops voluntary global safety standards for the design, construction, maintenance and repair of recreational boats. The ABYC Foundation is committed to advancing safe boating through education, promotion and ongoing support of students seeking training and education in the hopes of entering the marine industry. It is our hope that through efforts like the Jack Hornor and Larry Porche scholarships and the MTAP program, we can assist students in their educational journey and promote the development of the marine industry workforce. 

The Leonard W. & Katherine C. Hayward Memorial Scholarship
The Seamen's Church Institute of Newport is now accepting applications for the 2025 Leonard W. & Katherine C. Hayward Maritime Memorial Scholarship. Rhode Island Foundation
The Rhode Island Foundation is able to offer scholarships and fellowships to students from middle school to post-graduate level, from communities throughout the state, and in many different fields of study. All Rhode Island students, regardless of immigration status, are eligible to apply.

Miss Swinburne Fund Grants
The Miss Swinburne Fund Grant provides annual awards to nonprofit organizations that support the self-sufficiency and independence of girls and women in Newport County. Programs that provide certificates, degrees, and/or formal credentialing for the participants are encouraged. 

Berkshire Woodworkers Guild Scholarship
Since founding our guild in 1998, members of the Berkshire Woodworkers Guild have supported young men and women planning to become professional woodworkers. Recipients have attended some of the best woodworking and wooden boatbuilding schools in the country.

IMEA - International Marine Electronics Alliance
This IMEA scholarship program is an annual scholarship designed exclusively for marine trade schools that have a marine electronics component to their curriculum. The scholarship focuses on students who are entering or currently enrolled in a trade school marine technology program.

Massachusetts Marine Trades Association
MMTET (Massachusetts Marine Trades Educational Trust) is the caretaker of the William Armstrong Scholarship Awards. Bill Armstrong was a boat dealer on the south shore of Massachusetts and an original member of the MMTA as well as serving on its board of directors. These awards may be given to a Massachusetts resident who is a high school senior or graduate pursuing an education or training at a qualified institute of higher learning, with the intent of entering or continuing to work in the recreational marine industry in Massachusetts up to $1,500.00 may be awarded to a recipient.

The Nuts Bolts and Thingamajigs Foundation
The Nuts Bolts and Thingamajigs Foundation is offering multiple non-renewable $1,500 – $3,500 scholarships to any college or university. Full-time college students that have a 2.5 GPA for trade, community, or technical colleges or 3.0 GPA for universities may apply. Students must be currently enrolled in or entering a certificate or degree program which leads to a manufacturing career on a full-time basis (12 or more credit hours).
